Biographical Notes:

"Private John Colton, who passed away on Monday, was laid to rest in the Greymouth Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The funeral cortege was a very  large one, deceased being a very popular young man. A Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church and at the graveside. The obsequies were conducted by the Very Rev. Dean Carew. The case of this young soldier is a very sad one for it is stated that he went into camp in a state of health which was far from satisfactory and those who knew him were astonished at his being passed as fit."
