Biographical Notes:

“Corporal John Fyfe McDonald, who was killed on August 25, was the fifth son of Mr Allan McDonald, 103 Macandrew road, Dunedin. He was educated at the Forbury School, and on leaving school he entered the Post Office. He went away with the 10th Reinforcements with another brother. He had four other brothers at the front —two in the Fourth Reinforcements, one in the 10th, and one in the 15th. Two of his brothers are in a sanatorium in New Zealand, one died from sickness in Egypt, and one is a prisoner of war in Germany, but cannot be located. He lost his wife before he went away, and leaves two children.“ [Otago Witness, Issue 3367, 25 September 1918, Page 42]
