Biographical Notes:

“The death has occurred of Captain John (lan) Finlayson at the age of 49. He served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the last war rising to the rank of captain. From 1920 to 1927, he served in the New Zealand Territorial Force with the same rank. He joined the permanent Staff in 1927, and after being stationed at Auckland, was transferred to Area 2, Paeroa, where he remained until 1939. He was transferred to Papakura Camp and then Ngaruawhahia Camp, where he was appointed  Adjutant. Finlayson was given a military funeral this afternoon, interment taking place at Purewa Cemetery."
