NZ WAR GRAVES

Biographical Notes:

"The death of another young New Zealander is reported, in the person of Quartermaster-Sergeant  H. J. Tipling. The late Mr Tipling joined the Imperial Yeomanry at Swansea, South Wales, as a trooper. He saw his company discharged after a years service, and received his own discharge but volunteered for service again, and was given the rank of sergeant with the new company. Mr Tipling was attacked by enteric fever, but he ultimately recovered. He went on service again, but in a short time he met with another mishap by breaking his collar-bone. He recovered from this, however, and went on active service once more. In a short time he was promoted to be Quartermaster-sergeant. On the 25th December of last year he was again attacked by enteric, and on the 31st. of that month he succumbed to the disease. Mr Tipling will he remembered by a large circles of friends, both in England and New Zealand, as a dashing, and warm-hearted young man, and his untimely death will come as a shock to many."
