Biographical Notes:

“PRIVATE HARRY WEENINK.
About three weeks ago news came to hand that Private Harry Weenink, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs Weenink, South Beach, was missing, believed dead. Yesterday the family received word from the Minister of Defence that "Harry" had been killed in action on the 12th of last month. The sad news, although expected, caused quite a shock to the family and their many friends. It is just twelve months ago since "Frank," the third son was killed in action. Private Harry Weenink, like his soldier brother, was indeed a splendid specimen of young manhood, well liked and well beloved by all who knew him, and a credit to his parents and family. He was a carpenter by trade and well and favourably known all over the West Coast. He voluntarily enlisted and sailed with the 23rds. The family hay been hard hit in this, the loss of their second son and the wound will be hard to heal. The sympathy of the whole community will go out to them in this, their second sad trial.” [Grey River Argus, 22 November 1917, Page 3]
