Biographical Notes:

Tiger Moth accident: Went missing on an Army Co-operation exercise with the Home Guard. Tiger Moth II NZ1432 took off from Rongotai on the morning of 23 August 1942 while being operated by 2 Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit and failed to return. Large scale searches failed to find any trace of the aircraft.
Wreckage finally found in a steep gully in Makara Hills near Karori on 21 June 1945.
Pilot Officer Mason Elliott and Lieutenant Harold Francis Bollard #5/2300 of the Home Guard both killed.
The aircraft had flown into zero visibility and high winds and over Te Marama Station was caught in a downdraught. [Martyn 1998 p240]
