Biographical Notes:

“An old resident of Riverhead. Mr. Francis Deacon, died on Thursday at his residence, 53, Remuera Road, at the age of 57. Mr. Deacon was born at Riverhead in 1863, and when his father, the late T.W. Deacon, died recently at the age of 95, he succeeded him as proprietor of the Riverhead Hotel. In 1914 he volunteered for active service and sailed for Egypt with the Main Body. Eighteen months later he was invalided home, and he failed to regain his health. Mr. Deacon leaves a widow and an adult son and daughter. A military funeral will leave his late residence at 11 o'clock  this morning. “
