Biographical Notes:

"The death occurred in Wellington on Monday of Major Elliott Martin Christie. He was the elder son of Mr. John Christie, Lawrence, Otago. He attended the Otago Boys' High School and Otago University, where he obtained the degree of M.A. with honours in chemistry. He was also a fellow of the Chemical Society. He joined the staff of Rongotai College in 1929, and because of his exceptional ability as a chemist his work was principally in the laboratories. At the same time he showed a great interest in military affairs; he attained the rank of major about three years ago, and before his death had passed the examinations to fit him for the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Because of his ability as an instructor generally and the fact that he was a commissioned officer, he was released from school work early last year, and from then till his death he was instructing trainees for overseas service. Major Christie, who was in his forty-sixth year, leaves a widow and two children."
