Biographical Notes:

Flying a Kittyhawk in a dogfight exercise, he executed a steep turn, stalled and spun. It was believed that he may have been unconscious, as communication ceased before the crash, possibly due to hitting his head during the exercise. 17 days earlier he had escaped injury after another Kittyhawk set on fire and he had to abandon the aircraft.
