Biographical Notes:

Landing his Corsair at Ardmore, he suffered engine failure on his final approach. He raised the landing gear, in order to make a belly landing, but after touchdown struck a tree stump which ripped of a wing, causing the aircraft to set on fire. He was rescued, but died from his injuries in hospital the following day.
