SOLDIER'S DEATH SERVICE IN LAST WAR The death occurred suddenly at the Auckland Hospital  yesterday morning of Warrant-Officer (First Class) Cyril John Vause, M.S.M.. of the New Zealand Temporary Staff. Warrant-Officer Vause, who was 61, was born at Mercer where his father was postmaster, and after a few years' service with the Post and Telegraph Department he went to sea as a wireless operator. He joined the Main Body jof the Australian Imperial Forces on the outbreak of the last war and served throughout, gaining the Meritorious Service Medal and later a commission.

On his discharge Warrant-Officer Vause returned to New Zealand, and he Joined the temporary staff of the Defence Department before the outbreak of this war. On the formation of the sick and wounded section, he was posted to that unit, in which he was serving at the  time of his death. He is survived by his wife. The funeral to-morrow will be a military one.
