“Whangarei footballer Archibald Russek, died in Whangarei Hospital yesterday. Mr Russek, who was 24 years of age, just completed his period of military training with the North Auckland Regiment and had returned to his home at Tauraroa. On Wednesday morning, just after he became ill and was taken to the hospital. However, he collapsed and died at 11.45 the same morning, just after his admission to the institution.

Military Funeral. A military funeral will be held at the Maunu Cemetery at 2.30 tomorrow afternoon. Members of D company, of the North Auckland Regiment, his company, will form the firing party. Mr Russek was born at Akerama but moved with his family to Tauraroa, when only a child, and the greater part of his life has been spent at Tauraroa on the farm of his mother, Mrs E. Russek. A good footballer, Mr Russek was a representative Whangarei junior and last season played for the Maungakaramea senior team in the Whangarei competitions. He was not married. Besides his mother, there are four sisters, Mrs A. J. Marshall (Tauraroa), Mrs J. Haora (Parua Bay), Mrs C. Dicks (Whangarei), Miss M. Russek(Tauraroa), and two brothers, A. A. and F. S. Russek, both of Tauraroa.”
