Biographical Notes:

At the time of writing, Alfred's Service Record was not available.

But, by the casualty report, we do know that he was wounded, a gunshot wound to the chest, at the  Battle of Passchendaele in Belgium, on the 12th October 1917 and first treated at the No.1 NZ Field Ambulance before being moved to the No3 Australian Casualty Clearing Staion in Gezaincourt, near Doullens in France.

We also know that the Gezaincourt area received casualties by train, a siding was adjacent to the CCS - the No.29 CCS was also nearby and trains were switched to whichever CCS could receive them. It was also likely, given the distance, that Alfred was moved to hospital in Rouen the same way.
