Biographical Notes:

"An inquest into the death of Trooper Albert Henry Thomas Draper, aged 22. son of Mr and Mrs R. Draper, of Whangarei. who was killed when a hand grenade exploded at the Ardmore rifle range on June 6. was held at Papakura yesterday before the coroner, Mr A. Addison. Staff-Sergeant John F. Kearney, instructor in throwing live bombs, said that a trooper, in throwing the grenade, hit his steel helmet with his hand. This deflected the bomb towards the priming bay, where it exploded, hitting Trooper Draper and Corporal George Anderson. The coroner returned a vedict that death was due to injuries resulting from an explosion during live grenade exercises."
