Biographical Notes:

A fatality occurred at Lyall Bay yesterday, when a returned soldier named Thomas Alexander Munro, single, aged thirty-six, apparently died from heart failure when swimming in the surf. His mother, who was sitting on the beach, noticed the body floating face downwards, and immediately raised an alarm. Help was promptly forthcoming, but life was extinct. Munro arrived back from England last month, and had been in indifferent health since.

DEATH BY HEART FAILURE. FINDING AT INQUEST. WELLINGTON, March 8. At the inquest on Thomas Alexander Munro, Dr. Rattle stated that he hardly thought deceased had been drowned but that he had lost his breath while swimming. Another witness said that had deceased been in his usual health he would have been able to walk ashore as he had not got into danger. The coroner returned a verdict that Munro died from heart failure while bathing. He said the evidence went to show that it was not an ordinary case of drowning.
