“The funeral took place at Okaihau yesterday of the late Mr Theodore Russell Baker, a returned soldier patient who expired at the Whangarei Hospital on Monday evening from paralysis due to gassing at the war. The late Mr Baker had been working a fortnight ago at the limestone quarries at Taurikura Bay. His condition was apparently satisfactory until that time, but his exertions led to a breakdown which resulted in his becoming one of the large number - leaves a wife and one child, to whom returned men who have added their names to the roll of honour of men who gave their lives in the service of their country. Owing to heart trouble following upon gas Mr Baker developed paralysis and was removed to the Whangarei Hospital. The deceased leaves a wife and one child, to whom the sympathy of all "Diggers" and of the general public, will be extended in the family’s bereavement.” (sic)
