“Private George Henry Barnett, youngest son of Mr and Mrs V. R, Barnett, of Tai Tapu, late of Greenpark and a relative of the Barnett family, Leeston, has died of pneumonia supervening on influenza. Private Barnett was born in Greenpark, where he attended the local school, afterwards assisting on his father's farm. Having undergone training in the Featherston Military camp, he was accorded a public send off at Greenpark when down on final leave last September, but, not being among the chosen number of his Reinforcement to proceed to the front, he remained in camp. Taking advantage of the leave given, he came home for Carnival Week and contracted influenza, from which he never rallied. The funeral, a military one, took place at the Springston cemetery on Saturday. A squad of the C.V.C. was present, under Capt. Macartney, and fired three rounds, the "Last Post" being sounded by Sergeant Major Heald. The service was performed by the Rev. B. Metson (Tai Tapu) assisted by the Rev. J.
